Russia has withdrawn from the January edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo. In a statement, Pitti Uomo organizers said the collapse of the value of the ruble has compromised Russia’s ability to participate.
Up-and-coming Russian designers were due to present their collections in a dedicated “Guest Nation” space at the Jan. 13-16 menswear trade fair in Florence. However, due to the economic crisis and the turbulent currency situation in Russia, the Russian Fashion Council confirmed in an official letter that it has withdrawn from the show.
The event was planned to shine a spotlight on new stars of the Russian fashion scene, including Alena Akhmadullina, Cap America, 075, Leonid Alexeev and Pirosmani.
In September, Pitti and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation staged Open Russian Fashion, a special event at the SUPER trade fair, where 13 of the most promising Russian designers showcased their womenswear and accessory lines.
Pitti and the Russian Fashion Council said they would reconsider a special project in the future when Russia’s economy improves.
