Orta celebrated the grand opening of its New York showroom on Tuesday, inviting the local denim community to tour the East Village space.
The unique street-level showroom was designed to double as a blank canvas for pop-up shops, previews and brand events. The space is fitted with multiple levels of modular wood shelving, which complements a sturdy working table and leather chairs.
The Turkish denim mill has owned an office in New York City for more than three years, however Orta Marketing Manager Ebru Özaydin said the showroom will help foster more collaboration with its East Coast clients, including Gap, Banana Republic, J. Crew, Madewell, Alexander Wang, Ann Taylor, Marc Jacobs and Lane Bryant.
Five years ago, Orta made a conscious decision to expand its manufacturing base to become a full service denim mill. Özaydin said the goal was to create a mill that could cater to the ever-changing international jeans retail market.
“Our new office in New York reflects this goal and will highlight the key trends in the jeans business and allow our customers to be further educated on our highly sophisticated denim products. Our storefront office will enable us to be integrated in our industry supporting designer and industry pop-up stores and events. This brings Orta closer to our customers as we continue to lead with innovation and creativity,” Özaydin explained.
Orta already owns a showroom in Vernon, Calif., just five miles south of downtown Los Angeles. It also has an office in San Francisco. Its international footprint includes showrooms in Turkey, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Hong Kong, as well as contact offices in Colombia, Bangladesh, Tunisia, Japan, Belgium and Germany.
