Orta is going vegan. The denim manufacturer is introducing Vegan Denim, a collection of denim fabrics produced entirely with vegetable and natural dyes—a first at an industrial scale.

Orta has worked for years to find a solution to the inconsistencies and difficulties in producing intense color associated with using natural coloring agents to dye denim materials. The company developed a new dyeing technique that ensures an increase in affinity of dyestuff to cotton and a greater consistency in dyeing. Using the patent Vegan process, Orta can create intense shades in both vegetal indigo and natural colors.

Additionally, Orta said the denim is highly sustainable, using less water, energy and fewer chemicals than conventional dyeing methods.
