Nike is making inroads into denim.

The athletic giant applied for a patent for its new ‘architecturally reinforced denim’ late last month, according to a MarketWatch report.

Nike’s takes on denim with a fabrication that is “a denim fabric with high tenacity and/or moisture management and/or stretch materials. The material may change in order to “create different performance zones in the resulting garment,” according to Marketwatch.

The fabrication will cater to extreme sport athletes, giving Nike more fashion options than its activewear competitors.
