NYC-based premium denim brand Gilded Age released a collection inspired by the New York docks and core imports of the past.
“Sugar, coffee, tobacco, rum: these are things no one can get rid of,” said Stefan Miljanic, Gilded Age designer and creative director.
The collection has a carefully designed patina and hardness, featuring fabrics that appear crinkled and tinted. Miljanic focused on denim that looks authentically worn: one style features a faded square on the back pocket that gives the effect of someone carrying a phone or wallet in his back pocket for a period of time.
The line features medium and light selvedge and non-selvedge stretch with high-quality Italian, Japanese and American fabrics, including denim from Candiani and Cone Mills.
A highlight of the collection is a natural indigo selvedge denim done in a rare 13 oz. slubby Japanese denim. Each pair of jeans made in this unique fabric is stamped inside with a name and number.
