J Brand and Uniqlo parent company Fast Retailing announced Friday the group’s first space to focus exclusively on denim research and development.
Located in Los Angeles, Calif., the Denim Innovation Center is the sixth such center in Fast Retailing Group’s global network. The center unites specialists in jean development from brands within the group to create jeans using innovative technologies and fabrics, as well as eco-friendly processing and production allowing.
With this new venture, Fast Retailing says it can now accomplish development entirely in-house, allowing for a quicker process using the latest technology. The center can also be used by producers as a contracted research center.
Fast Retailing says the center focuses on “the three F’s” of denim production: Fabric, Fit and Finish. The first project for the facility will focus on J Brand and Uniqlo research. The finished products will be available for Fall 2017.
