There’s a fine line between cool and trendy. Vice, a demographic Bluezone describes as free-spirited, fearless, party-loving consumers, sets those boundaries with cheesy-meets-cool denim fashion inspired by skate culture and throwback silhouettes from the ’80s.

The denim trade show, held in Munich, Germany Sept. 5-7, outlined eight demographics for mills and brands to consider while building their next collection. Rather than focus on seasonal trends, the space offered insight on the style preferences each demographic favors.

This crowd favors high rise silhouettes, both slim and wide, in black and blue indigo. Black denim spans natural fades to marble-like finishes. Cargo pockets introduce a touch of utility to this fashion-driven theme. Light to bright blue jeans, skirts and jackets are brazenly destroyed or trimmed with jewelry-inspired charms, long white fringe and novelty-shaped hardware.

Details and embellishments bring this category to life. Waistbands are folded down, while exaggerated zippers bring a simple pair of straight leg jeans into dangerous territory. Jean shorts are baggy (and frumpy) with natural wear-and-tear. Denim skirts are mini and tight.

Trims span playful to dark. Space-themed patches, message appliqués and bright yellow and teal hangtags add a child-like feel to denim. Meanwhile, croc-printed zipper tape, studded back patches and dark trims take a serious turn.
