The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) will honor menswear designer Joseph Abboud, Shinola Detroit and more at the 38th Annual American Image Awards on May 24 in New York City.
Joseph Abboud will be honored as Person of the Year. Since launching his namesake line in 1987, Abboud has offered the menswear market a blend of European tailoring and American practicality.
Retailer of the Year Shinola Detroit has made a mark in the accessories category and in manufacturing with its range of Made in U.S.A. watches, bicycles, leather goods and journals.
Other honorees include Company of the Year BBC International LLC, a leading full-service footwear company specializing in sourcing, and Designer of the Year Christian Siriano. Businesswoman and fashion icon Iris Apfel will be honored with AAFA’s Fashion Maverick award.
The AAFA American Image Awards honors individuals and companies who have exemplified leadership and achievements in footwear and apparel. In a release, AAFA President and CEO Rick Helfenbein said, “This year’s honorees epitomize the best of the industry from design through creativity, to business and marketing achievements. We’re so proud to recognize their successful contributions.”
For the second consecutive year, the awards will benefit Mercy Ships, a global organization committed to providing the world’s impoverished with free basic healthcare and medical surgeries.
